Don't Want to Age? Take Omega-3!
A new study conducted by clinician Heike Bischoff-Ferrari and geoscientist Steve Horvath from the University of Zurich in Switzerland has shown that taking 1 gram of omega-3 daily for three years slows biological aging by three months, which is equal to an 8 % reduction.

The Core of the Study
The research included 2,157 men and women aged 70 and older. To assess the impact of omega-3 on aging, scientists used epigenetic clocks, which measure the difference between biological and chronological age. Participants were divided into eight groups, and they received 1 gram of omega-3 daily, 2,000 IU of vitamin D, or a combination of both over three years.
Slowing Down the Aging Process
It has long been known that omega-3 fatty acids are essential for heart, brain, and skin health. However, these benefits often seemed abstract—until now. The study, published in February 2025 in Nature Aging, provided concrete numbers.
Participants who took omega-3 daily experienced a three-month delay in biological aging. Those who combined omega-3 with vitamin D and regular physical activity aged even more slowly—by as much as four months.
This discovery could be a major breakthrough in anti-aging therapy. Moving forward, scientists plan to use the study's findings to identify new biomarkers of aging.
